A Hole-in-one for the Sports Hall

posted on

Though the day began with some clouds and the possibility of rain, it certainly didn’t dampen the spirits of the many golfers, sponsors and volunteers that arrived to support the inaugural Friends of the Sports Hall golf tournament held July 14th at Northridge Golf Course in Brantford.

The tournament, a homecoming of sorts, welcomed many members of the community as well as Sports Hall Inductees like the world’s best known hockey dad and community champion Lord Mayor Walter Gretzky, international-class marathon runner Rick Mannen, Olympic Softball player Cindy Eadie and former NHL hockey player Jay “The Hammer” Wells. Golfers were excited to play a hole with Wells as he graciously posed for photos with his coveted Stanley Cup ring he won in 1994 while playing with the New York Rangers.

The course left no shortage of entertainment and skill testing opportunities such as the hole-in-one which included $10,000 towards the purchase of a new vehicle from Brantford Nissan. Some of the other sponsored prize opportunities included a set of TaylorMade Speedblade HL Irons, $2,000 in complimentary golf, a set of tires from Consumer Tire and more!

Golfers wrapped up the afternoon with a delicious BBQ dinner, prize giveaways and a silent auction all generously donated by our many sponsors and supporters.

The Sports Hall Executive Committee and the City of Brantford would like to sincerely thank all of the golfers, sponsors, supporters, Northridge staff and the many hard working volunteers that made the event such a success. Although final numbers are not yet in, over $7,500 was raised for future upgrades and improvements to the Sports Hall!
