During the Brantford and Area Sports Hall of Recognition Induction Ceremony on Thursday, June 13, the Sports Hall Executive Committee inducted Jim Papai Jr. (Football), Jo-Ann Rizzo (Curling), and Lance Vipond (Figure Skating) for their dedication and outstanding achievements.  Hugo DeGrandis (Basketball) and the Six Nations Jr. B Rebels Lacrosse Association were also recognized as Honourees for their contributions to their respective sports.

The Inductees speeches were the highlight of the evening with inspiring stories about family, friends, hard work, and determination. Lance recalled his memories practicing his skating at the Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre and walking through the Sports Hall over 20 years ago dreaming that one day he would do something inspiring enough to be remembered in the Hall! “If you find your passion and work really, really hard, you can achieve anything,” he said. In Jo-Ann’s emotional speech, she told the crowd, “The best part about being involved in sports, are the friends I’ve made along the way. I’ll continue to chase my dreams as long as my body allows me,” and Jim described how his influences in life got him through his sporting career and felt truly blessed for the honour of being inducted into the Sports Hall of Recognition.

This year’s Honourees, Hugo DeGrandis and the Six Nations Jr. B Rebels Lacrosse Association were equally honoured by the recognition and eager to share their stories of teamwork, encouragement, and lessons learned.
